Artist: Huang Guoqiang

The clay used: Zhuni vermilion

A Yixing clay that only occurs in very small quantities. This clay is a clay from the 1980s. It differs from all other types of clay in that it is extracted less as ore and more as sludge and is more water-soluble. This requires special methods in the preparation of the clay. During firing, the composition leads to a dense clay with high shrinkage. Of course, this also has an effect on the tea prepared in a zhuni. It behaves more like porcelain, which means less attenuation of flavours and low heat capacity. We find this clay particularly suitable for high-quality younger Pu Er, delicate, complex Oolong and elegant black teas.

Artist: Guo Caihua

The clay used: Qingshuini Zini (purple clay)

There are many different types and qualities of zini, depending on the composition, origin and depth of the ore extracted. This clay has an extremely good plasticity, stability and little shrinkage during firing. That allowed the artists of the Ming period to create many of the forms that are still common today.

Due to the medium porosity of the pot, many teas have a more elegant, softer taste. This pot is made of Qingshuini Zini, an absolutely pure and traditionally produced clay from an original mine. It is well suited for all darker teas.
